We were supposed to leave a week ago, but when we went to check in at the counter at the airport, the attendant informed us we weren't going anywhere because to simply pass through India requires a visa and we were staying for a day. After about an hour of trying to figure out how to overcome this predicament as fast as possible, we concluded that nothing could be done that day and returned to Jessi's parents house in Fruit Heights.
There are ways to get visas in 24 hours, but not to India. Because of recent changes and upsets in the government, Indian consulates cannot issues visas before 5 business days. We set out and got everything we needed together and sent off as fast as possible and then we waited. In the meantime, Jessi and I discovered how nice it is to have a real and true vacation: no responsibilities, nothing scheduled, nothing! We wake up and choose between sudoku, reading, watching tv/movies, crocheting, or just sitting. Normally this would drive either of us crazy, but it has been surprisingly awesome.
Yesterday, Jessi got a letter informing her that UVU accepted her research proposal and would give her a grant only to be told this morning that the grant has been rescinded due to political turmoil and they don't want to support her in an endeavor that might result in her demise. This made us curious and so we researched the current events over in Nepal and apparently they're in the middle of a revolution. With this in mind, we started getting a little nervous. We've prayed and fasted, but this was not something we counted on. In answer to our doubts (maybe), as we were talking about our situation, the FedEx man came and delivered our visas a day early! Neither of us were sure whether we were excited about this or not, but so it is.
Everything's done and we're leaving tomorrow!
