After we received our visas in the mail, we had to do some fast maneuvering to get everything ready to leave the next morning. We just made it in time for the 7am flight to Atlanta, but (as we're flying standby) didn't get on. None of the other flights looked too promising either, but thankfully, we got on the 8:30 at the last minute. This left us with about six hours to wait for our flight to Mumbai, not knowing if we would actually get on or not (slightly stressful since we had a hotel reserved and a flight to Kathmandu that we'd actually paid for). Meanwhile, we realized that we had both left our credit cards that we needed as proof of identification for the flight to Kathmandu (Jessi's mom faxed copies to the Atlanta airport-technology is a wonderful thing) as well as Jessi's credit card that the program had issued with our travel insurance, etc. She called her mom and had it sent to Kathmandu, but who knows how trustworthy the postal service is in Nepal. After all of this, we were both feeling a little out of sorts and waited to be told whether we would actually be getting to our final destination on schedule.
The terminal started filling up and we looked around and found maybe five other caucasians-a preview for the next three months. A few minutes before they started boarding, we went up to see if we had seats. She handed us tickets on the first row of the plane. Words cannot describe the elation we felt, not only that we'd actually be going, but that it would be a comfortable (understatement) journey. The flight had sleeper seats which, as you can see, are not the normal arrangement so we spent the flight eating, sleeping, and watching movies. It was fantastic.
From "feast to famine!"-first class airfare to mosquito nets and cold showers! A thousand things are going through my mind right now but all I can say is that I'm thrilled that ya'll are there safely and I can't wait to see pictures and hear stories. Love you so much. "Merlsie"
